Introduction to the SaarLorLux Business Atlas project
In recent decades the European retail trade has undergone radical structural change that as yet has lost none of its momentum. A striking feature of this development is the rapid spread of new organizational forms.
This development has also been dynamic in the SaarLorLux region. Greater consumer mobility is giving rise to an increasing number of cross-border effects, which also impact the business policy of the retail trade.
Up to now no reliable or up-to-date information on numbers, size and location of these large-scale retailers has been available to assess the structural changes within the Greater Region.
The Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the Greater SaarLorLux Region are aiming to remedy this lack of information with the SaarLorLux Business Atlas. We extend our thanks to all the businesses and municipalities that participated in the CCI survey to compile data on the large-scale retail trade. Despite careful research we cannot exclude the possibility that isolated businesses have been overlooked in the census. The various CCI would appreciate any help in this respect. In addition, some countries (Germany and Luxembourg) only allow business data to be shown on the Internet – due to data protection laws – if the business itself has expressly approved such.
We hope you will understand that the Internet data for these regions may thus be incomplete. We have the complete data on hand, and you are welcome to get in touch with the contacts if you wish.
